Introducing... Canada Philippine Fashion Week

I'm so happy and excited to have been invited as media to Canada's first ever Philippine Fashion Week! It runs from Monday, June 10th to Saturday, June 15th, 2013. What's makes this fashion week so special is that all proceeds will go towards a good cause!

Here's a tidbit from the press release:

This dazzling week of Filipino fashion, culture, entertainment, and philanthropy, founded by Jeff Rustia, will feature a series of events spread over six days at incredible venues like Roy Thompson Hall and TIFF Bell Lightbox. There will be runway shows by top fashion designers from Canada and the Philippines, legendary exhibits from Fashion Statement of Jose Rizal and a special Mangyan Tribes Exhibit, to Francis Libiran's 100 Dress Collection, as well as a spectacular array of Filipino performances, world première film screenings, live music, art and food.

Canada Philippine Fashion Week is a non-profit organization aimed at showcasing fashion, culture, creativity and artistry of Filipinos in Canada and the Philippines. It also aims to enhance public awareness, image, and the rise of Filipino fashion on the world stage, and to open up the fashion trade between both countries.

It celebrates leading Filipino and Canadian fashion icons, in addition to supporting both young and emerging designers. The week-long event is committed to creating fundraising events that will help children through the Kol Hope Foundation for Children.

About Kol Hope Foundation for Children:

Kol Hope Foundation for Children was established in 2002 as a registered Canadian charitable organization that helps children born with Trisomy-related disabilities in Canada and the Philippines. It is named after Kol, a Filipino-Canadian boy, who was born with Trisomy 13, a fatal genetic syndrome. He was diagnosed to live only 3 months, but against all odds, he lived for 14 years.

He was fed by g-tube, required life support, 24 hour nursing care, and was unable to walk or talk. He passed away on October 9th, 2011, and has left behind an incredible legacy of love, courage and hope. He is the story and inspiration behind Kol Hope Foundation for Children. Since its inception, the foundation to date has raised over $500,000 CDN and has donated a total of 1.85 million pesos to the Philippines.

Sponsors for the event include: PLDT, Shangri-La Hotel Toronto, Philippine Airlines, Mary Kay, Scotiabank, Lexus, San Miguel Canada, Max's of Manila, GMA International (GMA PinoyTV, GMA LifeTV and GMA NewsTV.
