I had the privilege of spending a few minutes with charming Filipino-Canadian fashion designer Brian Maristela at Gotstyle in Toronto for Canada Philippine Fashion Week. Read more after the jump to find out more!
What are your favourite materials and fabrics to work with?
I love silk charmeuse when it comes to womenswear. I love the weight of it and the flow of the fabric. For menswear I prefer more structure. I like working with leather as well. A lot of my pieces--like suits--are made with leather lapels.
How long does it usually take you to construct a piece?
It depends. It can go from a week to a month. The [popular] dress (see image below) took me about a week to do.

What do you do when you're not designing?
I like hanging with friends at the beach, or having drinks on the patio.
What's your favourite Filipino food?
Sinigang and kare-kare with bagoong.
Tell us about your experience being a part of CPFW?
It's been amazing. It really opened my eyes to the culture. I learned about all the different festivals, and it's been a good eye-opener.
Hope you're all having a great week so far! xo
