Let Me Take You To My Honey Spots

Besides the one place I call ‘home’ (where I live), there are other spots I’ve been to that come pretty close to it. These are places where I feel most like myself; where I feel free, relaxed, cheerful and the happiest.

A few times a year, I visit my boyfriend’s family in New Jersey. A day trip to New York never fails to make it on the itinerary. Even if it’s just to walk around The City all afternoon for the umpteenth time this year, I can never get enough of walking by the luxe shops along 5th Ave., circling around Central Park, and racing to my favourite chicken and rice stand on 53rd and 6th once dinner time comes. I’m still wishing for the day I could finally call NYC my ‘home’.

Another place I like to call home is where I can get authentic Filipino food closest to the real thing (aka my mom’s cooking!). This special place is Max’s of Manila, where they offer classic crispy pata (deep fried fried pork), kare-kare (pork shank stewed in peanut sauce), and my ultimate favourite: tapsilog (a breakfast combo of cured beef, garlic fried rice and egg). It reminds me of my childhood growing up in the Philippines.

My week won’t feel complete without going to my local church for Mass. It’s very rare that I miss Sunday liturgy, and when that happens I try to attend one of the weekday Masses. There are countless things in my life that I am thankful for, and when I’m praying at church I feel blessed, grateful and happy.

How about you? Where do you feel the happiest?
