What I've Been Up To: 28 Day Jumpstart and Bikini Body Guide

Sorry I've been neglecting the blog... hopefully if I tell you guys what I've been up to you'll forgive me?

It all started a little over three months ago when a group of us decided to get into a little competition amongst ourselves and see who could achieve the most improved physique by June. No rules on how we were all going to achieve it, but that by June we should look a lot better than our January selves.

So far I've completed the Fit Girls Guide 28 Day Jumpstart, and I'm now entering Week 4 of Kayla Itsines's Bikini Body Guide. Curious about my progress? You can see where I'm at on my fitness Instagram account: _fitgirlalex (Follow me so we can motivate each other!)


At first, it was all about trying to learn how to eat well. The 28 Day Jumpstart taught me how. By the 28th day, I no longer craved salty, sodium-heavy foods, and I was over my lifelong obsession with white rice. The workouts were challenging enough for beginners, but I felt myself hitting a plateau. I knew I had to move on to something more challenging.

I started the Bikini Body Guide a few weeks ago, and I'm entering Week 5 this week. It's a 12-week guide and I'm happy to say that I think I've found what works for me. I get stronger week after week, and I'm starting to see noticeable changes on my body. I weighed myself today and I am 116.8 lbs. At my smallest, I was 110 lbs, but I was thin. I'd rather be 117 lbs with muscle than 110 lbs with nothing.

Throughout this whole process, I realized that having a regular workout regime goes beyond vanity. That every time I complete a workout I feel instantly better. I remind myself of the positive effects I've seen on myself when I lose the motivation to work out. I remind myself that I used to feel tired just running up a couple flights of stairs. I remind myself that at times, bending over suddenly to pick up something I've dropped used to cause pain and the feeling of pulled muscle. I remind myself that I feel like crap when I am not conscious about what I eat. I remind myself that I can be a better version of myself.

So that's what I've been up to these past couple of months. But let's not kid ourselves, I'm doing it for vanity too..
